The Experience of a Lifetime

Just a few more days before I embark on the adventure of a lifetime! In under a week I will begin the two day travel to Nepal (via Chicago, Munich, and Delhi). Once there, I will teach English in Nepali government schools as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA). Eight other ETA's are embarking on this same (yet very different) 8-month journey and hail from all over the continental United States. I was able to meet these lovely ladies (and Peter!) at the pre-departure orientation in Washington D.C. last month and look forward to seeing them soon! Who knows what the upcoming months will hold for us!

To document our journeys, we decided to set up a holding page containing the links to each of our blogs so that family and friends can check out each of our journeys along the way (a special shout out to Virginia for putting it together!). This site can be found at: www.NepalETAs.wordpress.com

As the actual departure day draws nearer, I cannot help but think of all the things I have left to do - especially packing. As of now, piles of items scatter my bedroom floor, hallway, and what seems like every other nook and cranny of our house. Yes, I do procrastinate. Eventually, the time will come when I can wait no longer and I will have to wean down the items and choose only what I really need - what can fit in my suitcase. The thought that I am setting off on an 8-month journey with only one checked bag and one carry on is quite nerve racking, yet very exciting! Leaving all of my Iowa friends and family will truly be a test of my emotions, but I am very thankful for the support system I have in the states and look forward to this amazing opportunity that has come my way!

As for my blog, you'll have to bear with me as this is all relatively new to me. It might not be pretty, but I hope to provide updates and keep everyone posted of the happenings of Nepal!
